Winter Essentials

Winter Essentials Cover Photo

Winter is upon us and as much as I love a good snowy day,  I do wish we could rewind back to the cool, crisp, autumn colored days of October! But hey, rather than dwell on it, let’s embrace it! Let’s learn to love all that winter brings.

So, in the embracing spirit, I decided to write up this post to highlight all my winter essentials! From fashion, to skincare, I’ll cover it all!

Fashion

When you think of winter fashion, you obviously think of warmth. We rely on multiple layers, wool socks, and winter friendly boots! Gloves, toboggans, and scarves are our favorite accessories, and we suddenly become a bit more concerned about quality, over quantity!

I’ve rounded up a few of my winter go-to pieces, just in time for the holiday season!

Accessories

Merino Wool Ragg Socks, 10″ Two-Pack – L.L. Bean

You can never go wrong with a pair of genuine wool socks, and this two-pack from L.L. Bean is top on my list! Perfect colors for winter! I just received these as a graduation gift from Keith and Lorrina, in our Century 21 office, and can’t wait to put them on.

Fringe Stripe Poncho – Forever 21

I have a poncho from Forever 21 that I purchased two years ago, and I wear that thing literally ALL the time. It’s so warm, easy to style, and the colors are beautiful! This one is similar!

Touch – Zip Bouclé Tech Gloves – ECHOHow cute are these tech-friendly gloves? I love the leather patch along the palm, as it helps with griping the steering wheel! And you can text away, with warm and toasty fingers (not while driving of course)!

Outerwear

Snow Eclipse Mid Jacket – Columbia

I have this jacket,  and I absolutely love it! I wear it almost every single day. It’s just the perfect casual winter jacket. I wasn’t sure about the longer length, but in the end, it’s perfect for frigid winter temperatures. The “Surplus Green” color is my favorite. Both the fur, and the hood are detachable as well!

Wool Blend Military Coat – Guess

I purchased a Guess coat in a similar style and color a few years ago and I still wear it quite often! It is warm, very well made, and super stylish! I use it for more formal occasions, and always receive plenty of compliments on it. The “Rum Raisin” color is the perfect winter burgundy color. The leather accents add some extra edge, and truly set it apart from other styles.

Shoes

Shellista Waterproof Insulated Snow Boot – The North Face

These sturdy boots get an A+ rating from me! I live in my North Face boots during the winter, and these are still very stylish, all while keeping you protected from the elements!

Cecile Waterproof Boot – UGG

I love the style of these leather UGG’s! They’re high quality, super warm, and waterproof! The non-slip bottom is important for those icy days too!

Chrissy Slipper Bootie – MinnetonkaI have lived in these house shoes for years! The bootie style is my absolute favorite! The hard sole allows for outdoor wear (these are my regular mail checking shoes). They come in several colors, and are a great price for the quality. I will continue to buy these as long as they continue making them! I have only owned them in the “cinnamon suede” color but this grey color is gorgeous!minnetonka-shearling-slipper-bootie.jpg

Beauty and Skincare

Winter is great and all, but along with it comes dry and dull skin, brittle hair, and changes in your skin type! I combat all these things by changing up my routine once those colder temperatures hit.

Makeup and Skincare

This is my go-to winter foundation! It feels very light on the skin and doesn’t dry me out! It’s also SPF 20, which helps protect against sun damage, which even occurs during the winter! This CC cream is a 6-in-1, so it replaces your foundation, concealer, primer, skin brightener, setting spray, and sunscreen! It’s perfect for my acne prone skin, and blends well with many complexions.

I was introduced to Kate Sommerville a few months ago through Influenster, and I fell in love with their skin care products! This ExfoliKate set is my favorite for dry winters, because it keeps your skin looking healthy, glowing, and ultra moisturized. I love their acne line as well, but it tends to be a little drying, so I steer clear of those products during winter. It’s all about knowing what works best for your skin! This set is on sale for the holiday season for $75!

Bath and Body

Lavender Pure Castile Liquid Soap – Dr. Bronner’s

I use this all over my house! It’s the perfect body wash, hand soap, pet shampoo, and cleaner. The lavender scent is really nice, but I also love the peppermint! You can also feel good about using this product, because it’s concentrated, biodegradable, versatile and effective. It’s ingredients are organic and certified fair trade, and the packaging is 100% recycled.

This scent is a light herbal and mint mixture. I use this on my body, in my home, and for quickly freshening up my car before hauling my friends around! It’s a scent that everyone will love, and it’s pretty much unisex! If you like more citrus smells, Dad’s Lemon Tree is another great one!

Hair Care

Hint of Color Dry Shampoo – Batiste

I buy this in the blonde color most of the time, but when I have my ombre touched up, and my roots are darker, I buy the brunette. This dry shampoo is an absolute life saver all-year-round, but especially during the winter! It’s the best way to battle “hat head” and give your locks some volume!

Soy Renewal Oil w/ Argan Oil Nourishing Styling Treatment – Healthy Sexy Hair

I use this to combat dry and brittle ends. I use it both morning and night, and brush it through my hair with a detangler brush. It’s great for taming fly away’s and static as well!

That’s it for my winter essentials post, for now! I’ll be updating it frequently, as I add new products into my routine, or new pieces to my closet.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
