What’s In My Gym Bag?

I have really gotten back on track with my daily exercise and weight training regimen, thanks to Amberleigh! She’s been “coaching” me and ensuring that I’m on track, eating right, and progressing. Lately, we’ve been doing a lot of home workouts, but I really do enjoy going to an actual brick and mortar gym. It gets me pumped up and motivated, and there’s so much more equipment to utilize. But, we’ve been managing at home with our mini-home gym.

Whenever I am able to hit the gym, I am always in need of something that I forgot at home. I either don’t have a hair tie, left my water bottle on the kitchen counter, or forgot to grab my headphones out of my work bag. It’s always a struggle for me. I always end up making do with what I have, but it’s super frustrating to not have headphones when all your gym plays is tone-deaf modern day country music. (Can y’all tell that I hate new country…?) So, I decided to put together a list of the essentials for every girl’s gym bag! Hopefully it’ll save you (and myself) some frustration on your next gym run!

The Bag

First, we have to talk about the bag. I’m not really all that picky when it comes to choosing a gym bag, but I do know many who are! For me, a gym back needs long shoulder straps, a zipper to close it up, and interior pockets or pouches to store small items that can easily get lost in the bottom the bag, like hair ties or bobby pins! It’s also got to be pretty roomy! Once you pack shoes, an outfit, and all the essentials, it can get pretty crowded! I really like bags that have a separate shoe compartment on the bottom of the bag. I’ve linked some of my favorites below!

The Essentials

Along with all these items below, you should show up each and every day to the gym with a positive attitude and truly put your heart into it. Keep reminding yourself how good you feel after every workout, and how much better it makes you feel! There’s no better cure for a bad day than a hot sweaty workout

Dry Shampoo – It has been a real struggle for me to find a dry shampoo that actually works and doesn’t leave me gray headed and flaky looking. I have found two so far that really work well for me, Eva N.Y.C. Freshen Up, and Batiste. I usually buy the brunette color in the Batiste brand, since I do have some darker roots going on with my bayalage.

Facial Wipes – I fell in love with these Pacifica facial wipes after a last minute run into Whole Foods before the gym. They’re all natural and clean my acne-prone skin perfectly! I also really like the Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing wipes.

Water Bottle – You can never go wrong with a Blender Bottle or a nice Swell bottle, but I am completely and totally obsessed with these BKR. Bottles that you can find at Sephora! They come in gorgeous colors, and have super cool designs.

Plexus Edge – I ditched the chemically filled pre-workouts a few years ago, so I was super excited when Plexus released Edge, an all-natural energy supplement! I take one of these babies 30-minutes before a workout.

Plexus Ease – After a hard day of weight lifting, or even some intense cardio, I am always in need of some muscle rub. This stuff is all-natural, and plant based. It works pretty similar to Icy-Hot, but without all the chemicals.

Deodorant – I have struggled to find the perfect deodorant for years now. And I have finally found the one for me! This Dove Dry Spray is absolutely amazing. It keeps me smelling fresh and clean all day long and comes in tons of great scents. My favorites are the Beauty Finish and Cool Essentials.

Hair Ties – I am always missing hair ties when I get to the gym, and that’s literally the worst thing. I love these no-crease hair ties because they make it easy to let my hair down after the gym to go on with my day, and look cute as a bracelet too!

Socks – It’s always nice to keep an extra pair of socks in your gym bag, since that’s like a really easy thing to forget to pack! I love Nike socks, and especially the ones made for running, as they provide awesome cushion and support.

Protein Bars – If there’s a protein bar on the market, I’ve tried it. We were constantly trying different kinds at one point, and I finally decided that I love these Zone Perfect Bars the best! I LOVE the Fudge Graham and Peanut Butter flavors.

Headphones – These Jabra headphones are the bomb dot com. The sound is great, they stay in my ears during cardio, and have easy functions for making and answering telephone calls.

  1. Love this blog post ! I can definitely relate that I was super stuck on going to a brick and mortar gym! Also with having your head phones with you they really do help you get in the zone. I never knew they had bags with a compartment for shoes on the bottom that is really neat . We purchased a total home gym so I’m trying to get use to using it and it is way easier since it is in my home . Thank you for sharing your story and your must have gym essentials will have to try some of those out !
